The Bolognese Apennines, part of the larger Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, stretch across five valleys that take their names from the rivers that run through them. This fascinating area, which can be explored on foot, by mountain bike or by horse, reveals a wild and uncontaminated nature and numerous natural parks of great natural, environmental and historic interest.
The three parks that cross these valleys contain various itineraries for visitors: the Parco dei Gessi Bolognesi with its gypsum outcrops and over two hundred caves, the Monte Sole Historical Park and the Suviana and Brasimone Lakes Park, full of secular chestnut woods.

The main communication routes through the Bolognese Apennines, which connect the Bologna area with Tuscany, are: the Autostrada del Sole, the Provincial Road 65 of the Futa and the State Road 64 ‘Porrettana’.
Walking enthusiasts can follow the millenary routes of the ancient Roman Flaminia Minor, which connected Bologna with Florence, and was once used as a pilgrimage route. This route provides walkers with an excellent opportunity to spot various animals that populate our region such as fallow deer, deer and fawns.

Visitors to these areas can immerse themselves in nature and experience a unique and mesmerizing experience through the smells, sounds and flavours of the Bolognese Apennines.
