Silence and total relaxation. Splendid rooms, especially the Sole (Sun) room, a pretty garden complete with swimming pool, and, first and foremost, an excellent breakfast with fresh cakes made by Alice, the owner. For dinner, we can certainly recommend the excellent cuisine at the club house in the Molino del Pero Golf Club, less than five minutes’ drive away. The Golf Club also offers excellent golfing rates for Lodole guests.

Great care has been taken over every detail in this beautiful house with its cosy, friendly atmosphere! Alice, the owner, surprises you every morning with the exquisite fragrance of her homemade cakes and the breakfast is sensational by Italian standards. The hotel is only about 14 km from the motorway exit and in practically no time at all you are sitting peacefully in the middle of  the countryside beside a swimming pool offering marvellous views in all directions. On our way to Umbria we stopped off for 2 days here, time to enjoy a little relaxation and an excellent dinner at the nearby Golf Club.

The hotel was fantastic, the landlady was so helpful and polite. The house was in a gorgeous country style and went great with the absolutely staggering surroundings!

The hotel was a little hard to find. Could do with some signs on the road.

I would have liked a more modern design... That however is a personal opinion.

Beautifully peaceful location. The owner Alice’s breakfast is a real adventure with fresh cakes every day.
A shame they don’t do dinner as well as restaurants are not very close to hand and you need a car to get to them.

Lodole Country House was the warmest and most beautiful accomodation I have ever experienced - ever. It's where heaven meets earth. The breakfast was food for the soul, the decor is impeccable, the keeper of this b&b is kind and wonderful, and the setting is where God Himself smiles...

It's not exactly a complaint, but in my experience, we travelled here for the first time at night and it was a little difficult to find. Finding it, however, made up for all the frustration of not finding it at first.

Without doubt the best b&b I've stayed in this year. The house is a seventeenth century building that has been completely restored and as it is set right in the hills, it is ideal for anyone wishing to relax and escape the hustle and bustle of city life.
Even so, it only takes about 20 minutes to get to Bologna and if I’m not mistake there is a golf course nearby too.
Alice, the owner, is fantastic, kind, helpful, discreet and an excellent cook … the cakes she made for breakfast were really delicious.
When I booked I didn’t even have to pay a deposit and I was given the “Dusk” room I had asked for.
For dinner the owner recommended a restaurant near the b&b and I have to say the food was far better than I expected!
This is a place your heart warms to, right from the moment you walk through the door. The hearth and the sofa in the lounge have a really cosy look about them, and the general atmosphere is discreet and intimate.
The room was beautifully clean, cosy and perfectly decorated right down to the tiniest detail. The nice, warm bathroom had a big shower. The only flaw perhaps was that as the other guests had to pass my door to get to theirs I always heard them going past.
In any case I’d go straight back today if I could and for a couple of nights at least!

Loved this place, Alice the owner was very hospitable and friendly. Baked fantastic cakes every day and gave us loads of tips on restaurants and places to go in the locality. You will need a car to get around and it is a good base for day trips to Bologna, Parma, Florence etc. Or you can take a day out and relax by the pool or play golf in the course next door. You will leave chilled out and relaxed!

This immaculately clean and beautifully kept house is surrounded by breathtaking views of the Bologna hills, which are a splendid antidote to the stress of modern life.  Alice, the owner, greets you with useful information about local restaurants to dine in, and her splendid cakes enhance the incredibly rich breakfast table.  The shared lounge is delightful and includes a crackling fire that you can cosy up in front of while leafing through the numerous tourist books and magazines that are available to guests. The rooms are large and tastefully decorated to match the rest of the house.
Navigator systems will probably not take you all the way to the house, but that isn’t a problem.  Just call Alice and she will give you all the instructions you need.
Highly recommended!

This well-kept  B&B is located in the heart of the Apennine hills. The rooms are beautifully decorated and the breakfast is particularly good with a range of local products and homemade cakes…..the owner is extremely friendly and gave us some useful tips for nearby restaurants where we ate very well for extremely honest prices ..... all this  plus a swimming pool to make your holiday even more enjoyable and restful.

The pool is a good size and the surrounding countryside is very relaxing. We ate at the Benvenuti restaurant in Lodole. Great tortellini!!

The owner was a bit frosty when we arrived and didn’t really welcome us at all!
We had booked for just 1 night and we weren’t given the room we had asked for.
We stayed in the LUNA (Moon) room in the main house and it was noisy and lacks air conditioning (like all the other rooms).
Other comments: Nice location with a pool and good views.
Everything was very clean and the rooms are all carefully and elegantly furnished.
Breakfast: TOP marks for both quality and quantity (especially the homemade cakes)

The friendly, helpful character of the owner, Alice, is an essential part of the beauty and cosy comfort of this house that she runs with real love.
This is displayed in the House’s loaded breakfast table and the way every room is so tastefully furnished and spotlessly clean.
We would certainly recommend it to anyone wishing to spend some quality leisure time in the Tusco-Emilian Apennines, as this location has the advantage of being just a short drive from some of Italy’s most beautiful towns, while also being in the heart of typically Italian hills with beautiful woods and stunning cuisine.
Congratulations Alice and keep up the good work!

We spent one night here on our way from Lombardy down to Tuscany. When we reached the old, beautifully restored farmhouse, we knew we had made a huge mistake. The farmhouse is beautiful and Alice greets you warmly when you arrive. The rooms are huge, authentic, with comfortable crisp linen. We had no problems sleeping. The breakfast in the morning was one of the best breakfast we had during our 3 week stay in Italy. Home made bread, cakes, honey, marmalades - just delicious!
Outside is a beautiful terrace, complete with swimming pool overlooking the rolling hills and valleys. This place shouldn't be a stop off onto somewhere else.

Of the many places that we stayed during our Italian vacation, the Lodole B&B was by far the most relaxing. Nestled in a beautiful valley between Monzuno and Loiano, Alice has put together a very attractive combination of houses and rooms for her guests to stay in. The natural beauty of the location was exceeded only by the spectacular breakfasts that Alice made for her guests every day. In fact, she went the extra mile in a number of ways to ensure that we enjoyed our time there, which we certainly did. In fact, we were so enchanted with the location that we skipped Bologna altogether and just spent our two days exploring the glorious countryside!

Had to put off the trip twice, the first time because the baby got sick and the second time because of an incredible snow storm, 1 and a half metres of snow.... the staff at the House, though, were extremely helpful in shifting our stay. We finally got there on April 30th 2010, checked in early without any problem in this really beautiful house in the hills outside Bologna, between Monzuno and Loiano... the landscape is a bit like Tuscany... and this old country house has been renovated with great care and superb taste... we slept in the "Sun" room... all very spacious and an elegant, clean bathroom. There is real attention to detail... in our room everything was carefully “Sun” coordinated, from the wall colours to the bed surrounds. The beds were very comfortable too and the whole place was new. Fantastic hospitality. Alice, the owner, is very friendly and really looks after you, fantastic cakes every morning… and a nice, soft, delicate cheese… I can recommend the tigelle and crescentine specialities too... just ask Alice… she can recommend the best place to try out all the local delicacies. A refined, elegant, high-class environment. I would certainly recommend it to couples.

A little bit out of the way, unfortunately, with very few restaurants nearby. A compact country house with nicely decorated rooms, but nothing much outside (when I went there with my wife in 2007 the pool was still being built), so it wasn’t the sort of place you felt like relaxing and sunbathing in all day. The owner is exquisitely polite and friendly. Very generous breakfasts and really excellent quality.

Gunder from London, UK - 2nd January 2008

We stayed at Lodole to see in the new year. It is a wonderful B&B set in the hills approximately 30min from the centre of Bologna.
The B&B complex is set apart from the rest of the owner's property and because we booked as a large group we basically had the place to ourselves. The complex has 6 double rooms with a communal living area which always had a roaring fire and plenty of penuts and oranges to keep us happy. Tea was also served in the afternoons whenever we wanted it.
The owner, Alice, is extremely welcoming with the rooms beautifully presented with a superb breakfast everyday. She went out of her way on many occasions to reserve us dinner restuarants and enquire about activities to do. Her English is basic and it certainly helped having an italian speaker in our group.
The scenery is wonderful and extremely relaxing. It is very hard to find a negative comment but I would say that the walls are quite thin and noise does travel a long way in the property.
Some tips:
- get the owner to book you dinner reservations (we went to a number of local places e.g. the Golf club restuarant, very good)
- reasonable italian skills would help
- hire care essential!
- activities to do there: walking (ask owner for routes), visit Parma (1 hour away), castle and wine tasting in Dozza and visit Ferrari museum in Maranello.
Would absolutely recommend staying here for a really relaxing time in the middle of breathtaking scenery, a real find.

Chirpy the Wanderer from Edimburgh, Scotland - 18th August 2007
I'd endorse what Reggiedog has said. We stayed for 3 nights in late June. The B&B is a beautifully converted farmhouse and is very airy, clean and comfortable inside. Our room was charming, with stylish traditionally-styled furniture. The en suite bathroom was well appointed. My wife and I were a bit worried about how comfortable the room might be in the summer nights. We found that we could ensure a comfortable temperature by keeping bedroom and bathroom windows open.
Alice, the landlady, was very welcoming. She gave us some good suggestions for local walks. She also produced some great breakfasts - fruit salads, juice, bread, meat, cheese, tea/coffee and a lovely array of homemade cakes. We found we had to drive to find a place for dinner - while restaurants in Monzuno and a local golf club are notionally within walking distance, the road is steep and twisty and generally not very safe for pedestrians. We found a very nice, simple pizzeria in Loiano, which we visited twice.
We split our 6 night stay in Bologna between Lodole and a place in the city. We're so glad we did. Lodole and the surrounding area offer some beautiful surroundings and a cooler summer climate than cities in the region. It's off the beaten track (even though Bologna is barely 30 mins away) and so offers an opportunity to be part of a real, relaxed, friendly Italian lifestyle. As a result, even a basic knowledge of Italian would definitely help - but don't let that put you off staying in the area.

Reggiedog from Naaroma, Australia - 10th April 2007

This B&B is "off the beaten track" about 30mins drive South of the city of Bologna. Its not the easiest place to find but when you do it is well worth the effort. Set in the beautiful surrounds of the hills around the village of Monzuno, it is far from the busy cities and autostrades that might otherwise dominate an Italian holiday.
We were given a friendly greeting and shown to a delightful room which was impeccably clean and very comfortable.
Immediately upon arriving (about 6pm) we wished that we had made the effort to get there sooner to experience the lovely scenery and comfortable surrounds. Unfortunately we only had one night booked. Our host recommended a trattoria only a few minutes drive from the B&B and so we went there for dinner. The food was very good and the service was brilliant despite only a little English being spoken.
Breakfast the next morning was excellent also and a good variety of fresh food including fruit, cereals, juices, cheeses, ham, bread and cakes were served. The coffee was good also. We had a brief conversation with a Swedish family who were also taking breakfeast. They were staying for the entire week and seemed very happy about it.
This cosy little B&B is thoroughly recommended though you will need a car as we didn't really see any public transport except for the occasional bus and the walk into the village is not for the faint hearted. We would definitely stay again if in the area. Actually, the drive is interesting enough as you wind through the hills and valleys south of Bologna.

My parents live just a stone’s throw from Lodole Country House, but my husband and I decided to stay there for a couple of days before going on holiday this year. Words really cannot express the beauty of the countryside here, the detailed décor of the rooms and their sense of privacy. I can only say that the food was exquisite too. All in all, a very pleasant surprise...

Enchanting, the breakfast is sublime with homemade cakes, fresh fruit and carefully selected specialities. The swimming pool is surrounded by greenery. The rooms are beautifully clean and comfortable and some of them even have their own private entrance. A shame there is no air conditioning.
